Moscato Jellies

It’s been a weird couple of months for me lately. You may have noticed that my posting frequency has decreased (sorry about that) but sometimes life just takes over and before you know it, the months have flown by and you’ve barely managed to get a post in. My usual late night blogging activities have been replaced by late nights at work, and caring for a family member of mine who is quite ill.

I like to think of myself as quite an optimistic person, and that even amongst all the crap there is still a silver lining. Although it’s sad when someone is very sick, it has brought out the best in all our family and everyone has shown so much support, with relatives flying from all around the world to visit and help out where they can. And even though I’ve been swamped at work, I’ve been able to catch up with friends that I haven’t seen in a while which is always cause for celebration.

On one such occasion, we had a girly night in for a friend’s birthday, and I had been fortunate enough to have been sent two bottles of a new pink moscato courtesy of Bimbadgen Winery. It was the perfect reason to crack open a bottle to share with friends, who really enjoyed the pretty pink colour and the sweet, almost honey-like flavours in the moscato.

I saved the other bottle to make these bubbly moscato jellies to celebrate this humble little blog’s 4th birthday. It’s a pretty, slightly spritzy, and sweet treat that is very easy to make and it’s a nice way to enjoy the fruity flavours of the moscato. I think I say this every year, but I’m always surprised that four years on, I’m still blogging (and I thought this was just a temporary procrastination tool!) and I’m still loving every moment of it, even though it’s sometimes hard to get posts out on a regular basis.

To say thank you to all the readers of Penguin says Feed Me, I have three bottles of Bimbadgen Moscato to give away thanks to to Agent99 and Bimbadgen Winery. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post answering the following question:

“What’s your favourite celebratory drink and why?”

Win tickets to Haute Cuisine

HC_A4poster

It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that I count foodie films amongst my favourite movies. Tampopo, Julie & Julia, and Ratatouille are just some of them (and if you haven’t seen them, go and watch them!) So I was excited to hear about a new film, Haute Cuisine, which features delicious food, French culture, stunning scenes of the Élysée Palace and truffles!

111004-6576

And what is Haute Cuisine all about? It’s a comedy-drama starring Catherine Frot (nominated for a Cesar Award for Best Actress), Jean D’Ormesson and Hippolyte Girardot, and is based on a true story of President François Mitterand’s private cook.

111004-6713

In the movie, Hortense Laborie, a renowned chef from the Périgord, is responsible for creating all his meals at the Élysée Palace. Despite jealous resentment from the other kitchen staff, Hortense quickly establishes herself, thanks to her indomitable spirit. The authenticity of her cooking soon seduces the President, but the corridors of power are littered with traps…

Penguin says Feed Me is giving away five double passes to see Haute Cuisine courtesy of TM Publicity, opening in cinemas nationally from April 25. To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post answering the following question:

“If you had a private cook, what one dish would you get them to cook for you?”

Better Homes and Gardens LIVE Giveaway!

Since moving into my own place, I’ve had to start doing a lot of things for myself. With no more parentals to cook, clean and pick up after you, it’s been an endless learning curve for Sir D and I, and we’ve had to figure out things like how to get rid of carpet stains, how to fold a fitted sheet (which I still can’t do…) and ideas on quick post-work dinners and decorating the place to make it feel more like home.

The Better Homes and Gardens LIVE event is on in Sydney this weekend (14-16 September 2012) and is a great source of information, ideas and inspiration for anyone interested in home and garden projects. There are heaps of different zones to visit depending on your interests, including a home decorating zone, craft zone, gardening zone, pet zone, kids zone, a renovating and DIY zone, and of course, a food zone!

Live stage shows will be presented by some of the Better Homes and Gardens team like Johanna Griggs, Dr Harry Cooper and Fast Ed, and for those of you who like to get in on the action, there are interactive, hands-on workshops such as cupcake decorating and making your own herb garden.

Penguin says Feed Me is giving away two double passes (valued at $80) to the Better Homes and Gardens LIVE show courtesy of Morey Media.
